One of the most awaited 4G phones, JioPhone is now launched. With the help of this latest release, Reliance wants to provide the 4G speed to the masses who cannot afford to buy costly 4G mobiles. During the launch event, Mukesh Ambani said that 50 crore feature phones are left out due to the huge rise in the smartphone market. Now we can get a smartphone for just Rs 3,000 itself. Mukesh Ambani said that they are trying to reduce the gap between the feature phone and smart phone with their new device which sits somewhere in the middle of those two categories.

Specs

 • The primary specs of JioPhone are:
 • a 2.4-inch QVGA display,
 • 512MB RAM,
 • Alphanumeric Keypad,
 • 4 gigs of internal storage,
 • a 2MP rear camera and a VGA front camera.

The device has most features a feature phone will have like built-in ringtones, speaker, call history, FM radio, Torch Light, Contact book. What’s different is that you would get NFC support too. There is also an SOS feature which can be activated by pressing 5.

Another main feature of JioPhone is the ability to mirror your device screen to the TV using the Jio Cable. Using this feature, you can connect your mobile to any TV and enjoy the channels. You need to get a Rs.309 per month plan for this feature to work.

Pricing and Data Plans

Even though Reliance is charging you Rs. 1500 per device, you are basically getting it for free. Wondering how? Actually, Reliance takes the Rs. 1500 as a security deposit and this money will be refunded in three years.

Coming to the data plans, you can access free voice calls, SMS and data for Rs. 154 per month. Apart from this, you can choose weekly plans for Rs 53 or even a two-day plan for just Rs. 23.

Even though you get ‘unlimited’ data access, the users are bound to have a fair use limit after which the speed drops. Users can access 500MB of high-speed data every day without speed drop for Rs. 154, after the limit you will see a decline in the speed.

The official launch of the Jio Phone is planned on August 15 and the pre-bookings will start from August 24. You can buy the device from your nearest Jio store or by using the My Jio app after August 24.
